Can Christ Trust You? #143Can your friends trust you? That's a terrible question to ask, isn't it? We can't stand people calling us a liar or a thief. It's a real insult. Well, at the risk of insulting you further, let me ask you a much more personal question. Can God trust you? Long ago when Jesus was preaching in Jerusalem, "Many believed in His name, beholding His signs which He was doing. Jesus, on his part, was not entrusting Himself to them, for He knew all men." (John 2:23-24). Here is a startling statement. Jesus was performing miracles. He was casting out demons and healing the sick. The Scriptures tell us, "Many believed in His name." Many people were following Jesus and professing faith in Him. Many came and said, "Oh yes, I believe in you Jesus." But Jesus did not trust these people. He knew what was in their hearts. Later on when Jesus was given into the hands of these same men and women in Jerusalem, they wanted Jesus killed. They cried out, "Crucify Him." (Mark 15:13). You see, Jesus did not trust these people for good reason. They said they believed in Him. However, in their hearts they rejected Jesus and wanted Him out of their sight. "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." Jesus said (Matthew 15:8). It's a shame the Son of God cannot trust people in this world. Christ does know the content of our hearts. As much as we might protest and say we do believe in Jesus, we can be like Peter and turn around and betray Him. How is it with you today? Can Christ trust you? You say you believe in Him. Is that profession empty and misleading?
