Let Me Talk to the Guy Who Designed This...

The problem was with Fortran74. A version of Fortran that was long past its prime but was still holding its own in the small company where I worked. The program I had written compiled fine, but would fail at the same place, with the same error every time. After much research, I decided the problem was not in my code, but in the Fortran74 software itself. I made a call to the "Support Center" of the very large computer company that sold the software, and then the fun began. The very large company, keeping my best interests in mind, had developed a complex system to help analyze my problem, determine the causes, evaluate possible solutions, and recommend a course of action. Naively, I waded into this morass.

Three weeks later, we were rapidly approaching the "determine the causes" stage of the process and I was growing somewhat weary and frustrated. An off-handed comment revealed that Fortran74 had been written by some folk in a lab in Tucson, so without telling anyone, I quietly called the plant.

"Hi, I need to talk to someone in Fortran development."

"No problem, I'll transfer you."

"Hi, I've got this problem with Fortran74, can you help me?"

"Oh sure, me and old Joe here were on the team that wrote that software, what can we do for you..."

About 10 minutes later, my program was running fine and I had gotten to know two very nice gentlemen in Fortran Development.

"They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator..." Romans 1:25

There is almost no problem too big, or pain too deep that can't be solved by a quick trip to a local bookstore. The "How-To" section that was once filled with information on fixing our carburetors, is now dominated by books on fixing our hearts, minds and emotions. Complex systems have been designed to heal our hurts, and transform our dysfunctional past into a productive future. But the vast majority of these systems fail to do the one thing that would work the best: Consult the Creator; The One who designed us from the ground up. The One who formed us in our mother's womb. The One who knows each of us as His child.

"Turn your eyes upon Jesus,"
The hurts we have are real.
God said we would have them.
"Look full in His wonderful face,"
The past has not been kind.
God said the sins of our fathers,
would carry from generation to generation.
"And the Things of earth will grow strangely dim,"
But the solutions to these hurts
Should not be of our own making.
"In the Light of His Glory and Grace."
The solutions are found in the Creator.
In the Light of His Glory and Grace.
